opera-general:

Celes walked along, still unsure of where she was going or how in the world she was going to find what she needed. She was hungry, she missed her friends, and she was tired of sleeping on the dirty pavement.

She had spent her last night in an alley with several children who appeared to be orphans. Despite offering to heal them, they had wordlessly chosen to keep their distance. How sad, she thought. This city must really be heartless. Even Vector had had more soul than this place.

Cloud walked along the streets of Edge, a small clipboard in his hand. He was ticking numbers around in his head, adding, subtracting. It was a form for all his business expenses and how much overhead he was left with. Things weren’t looking so hot, really, but he had a sizeable stash of Gil left over from his adventuring days.

He turned the corner to find a strange blonde woman wandering around completely lost. As he was something of an expert on Edge, he slipped the clipboard into his pack and raised an eyebrow at the odd woman.

“You lost?”

The chuckle caused Tifas brows to raise slightly for a split moment before she realized that it was in fact a good sound. It had been a while since she had heard the noise that she couldn’t help but be a little startled at it. It was a nice sound none the less. “Makes sense.” she nodded. “I just never would have thought that you’d actually pay attention to something like that…” these words were spoken quietly as her fingers gripped the edge of the bar briefly.

“Barret is off doing something,” being the amazing absentee father that he was “They’re off with a lady a few streets over. They like her since she’s known to give candy and cookies.” She sighed, shaking her head as she recalled the first day they came back laden with sweets from a stranger. “She’s a nice old lady.”

Has it really been that long since he’d last laughed? He shook that thought from his head and turned toward her. His gaze softened and he laid one of his hands on one of hers. “Why wouldn’t I pay attention to that, Tifa? It… It was important to you.”

Barret was off doing something? Figured, with the way things were lately, Marlene was all but their daughter. Not that he’d ever bring it up with Barret because he knew that what Barret did, he did for Marlene. He smiled as she told him of the sweet old woman. “Well, that sounds wonderful. I bet you they’re having a great time. Like we’re going to.”

‘Being invited into your own home…that has to tell you something. Maybe something like, you’re gone way to long perhaps?’

After Cloud had stepped inside Tifa made sure that the door was shut securely before following him in, moving to lean against the tall bar as he sat down. The appearance of the flowers surprised her and she looked down at them wide eyes for a moment before speaking. “Thank you…” she smiled taking the bouquet from his and holding it up to her nose for a small sniff that she wasn’t quite able to control. “Thank you.” she said once more before sending him another smile.

Giving a nod of excusal she moved to the other side of the bar to grab a vase, promptly filling it with water and gently lowering the flowers inside. “They’re beautiful.” Tifa said reaching out to stroke one of the long petals with a forefinger before walking back to sit on another barstool. “I didn’t expect you to remember my favorite flowers, let alone bring me any.”

He chuckled and shook his head side to side slowly, a small smile almost permanently affixed to his features. “Tifa, when we’ve been friends for as long as you and I, you pick up on certain things. I just so happen to remember that you love tiger lilies. Among other details of varying importance, of course.”

He relaxed against the bar, propped up on his elbows. He quirked an eyebrow at her and spoke. “I don’t see Marlene or Denzel around. They off with Barret?”

Mako? Lifestream? I don’t know what that means, but it must be pretty bad if it was killing your world.

Did you stop, uh, Shin-Ra?

The Lifestream is basically the planet’s blood and Mako is the stuff that makes up the Lifestream.

And eventually. It took a long time and many, many fights.

soraspam:

Well, now I’m interested.

Well, the Shin-Ra Electric Power company was drawing Mako from the Lifestream. That was actually killing the planet itself, so some acquaintances and I set out to stop them. In one of our raids on a reactor, I go separated from the others and met a flower girl named Aerith, I think you know her already. Anyway, Aerith was eventually abducted by Shin-Ra through use of their Turks.

So my friends Barret, Tifa and I, after they destroyed our homes when they dropped the ceiling of the city on Sector 7, decided we’d break into Shin-Ra. So we made it to the top and faced off against the President’s son, and rescued Aerith. So my friends piled into a truck and I took the motorcycle and we escaped the city.

Edge? Where has she heard that name before? Psh, nowhere. The blonde smiled nodding her head, “I’m from Bikanel Island! And I am fifteen years old sir!”

Where the hell is Bikanel Island…?

“I’m sorry, I’ve never heard of Bikanel Island.”

After she released his grasp she then couldn’t help but arch an eyebrow, “Where ya from Cloudy?” A smile emerged from her face then she giggled softly, “Mind if I ask how old ya are?”

“…Edge. I’m from Edge. And I’m twenty-four. …You?”
